My trip to the Maldives was nothing less than opulent!
Let’s go into the flashback.
As a family, my parents and I have always loved to travel. Visiting interesting places, meeting new people, and experiencing the unique cultures from around the world – that has always been our way to celebrate important occasions or recharge ourselves for the life’s challenges ahead.
So as soon as my school announced summer break, my parents went off to pack our bags so we could enjoy yet another family vacation at a new destination.
Thanks to this yearly holiday tradition, I have been all over the world and experienced all kinds of things. From Turkey to Paris, I have enjoyed indulging in all the touristy things one can imagine. However, one vacation that particularly sticks out to me still is my trip to the Maldives with the fam. That is one dream vacation that I will never be able to forget.
Some Exciting Things I Experienced On My Trip To The Maldives
Even though we were only in the Maldives for four nights and five days, we got the chance to indulge in a number of tourist activities. Thanks to my mom being a huge planner, we had a detailed itinerary about everything that we needed to do on our trip to the Maldives. Here are some of the most fun things we did that made my trip to the Maldives an unforgettable one.
1. Snorkeling among the mesmerizing marine life
What is a Maldives getaway without snorkeling in the stunning waters of its beautiful beaches? One of the biggest attractions of these gorgeous atolls is the mesmerizing marine life all around. So, we set aside an entire day to spend with the fishes and explore the beauty that lay just below the waters. As a child, I had never seen so much life and color at once. The beautiful image of manta rays swimming past me will now always be etched in my mind. This was hands-down one of the best memories of my trip to the Maldives.
2. Feeding the sharks
We stayed at one of the few family luxury resorts scattered across the islands during my trip to the Maldives. The wholesome, cozy atmosphere there encouraged tourists to mingle, and we made very good friends with another family visiting the islands. So, on one of the days, while my parents took some time off to avail spa activities for couples that the resort offered, they left my sister and me with our new friends to enjoy a shark feeding show at the resort.
That day, we watched as a staff member threw chunks of meat to the sharks swimming in the crystal clear water. With each piece of meat thrown out, more and more sharks would collect to grab the food as we watched from above.
3. Lazing around on the beaches
We had planned to spend our third day in the Maldives simply enjoying nature and each other’s company. With no other activity for the day on our itinerary, we had the time of our lives just lazing around on the beach, tanning, and building sandcastles. Surrounded by the stunning scenery and enjoying the especially pleasant weather, we had some quality family time and bonded over anecdotes and stories.
4. Swimming for hours on end in the resort’s luxury pool
My dad is a big believer in getting the most out of his buck. For this reason, he had my mom set aside one day to experience all that the resort offered with our stay. So, while my sister and I spent the day swimming for hours on end in the resort’s luxury pool, my parents indulged in various activities included in our package.
5. Buying souvenirs from the local pop-up stores
Every time we visit a new place, we make it a point to buy souvenirs for our friends and family and for ourselves to remember this time in our lives. With the various local shops lined the islands, we picked the most interesting mementos to buy. At the end of our shopping spree, we had purchased a plethora of local handicrafts, sarongs, miniatures of dhonis, jewelry, coconut products, and various fish products to take back with us. I still have a few of these souvenirs in my room that take me back to my trip to the Maldives.
6. Parasailing In The Sky
I remember my parasailing experience as a child so vividly and being so excited to try it out. My dad helped me put on the harness and then I was off, of course with my dad! We flew high into the air and got an incredible view of the island below. I felt like I was flying! It was such an exhilarating experience.
After a few minutes, my dad started to lower me back down to the ground and I remember feeling so disappointed that it was over. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip.
Is The Maldives Only For The Newlyweds?
The Maldives is largely considered a honeymoon destination. With its serene beaches and romantic resorts, many regard it as the perfect place for couples to spend some quality time together. But on my family vacation there, I learned that it is the ultimate destination for every kind of vacation.
Granted, most travelers we saw around us were newlywed couples excited to embark on a new journey of life. However, that is not to say that they were all that the stunning atolls host. Staying at a family resort, I saw two other family units apart from our own who were visiting the Maldives on a family vacation.
In addition to families, Maldives is also the ultimate destination if you are planning a solo trip. For anyone looking to enjoy their own company and find themselves, these islands are the perfect spot to do so. The Maldives is also a fantastic place to explore with a group of close friends, indulging in the many water sports and experiencing the beauty of these islands.
When Is The Best Time To Plan Your Maldives Trip?
The Maldives experiences its most heavy tourist traffic between the months of December and March. During this time, the weather is at its most pleasant, and you get to experience almost every tourist-worthy thing about the islands. However, if you are longing for a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation where you can sit back and enjoy nature, it’s best to go when there are no crowds to disrupt your peace. The months between April and November are perfect for enjoying this sort of trip.
As for us, we planned our trip to the Maldives during July, when the schools were closed for the summer. Though this is typically regarded as the wet season, we were lucky enough to experience all sunny days and no rainfall throughout our stay.
Wrapping It Up
The Maldives offers a 30-day visa on arrival to a number of countries around the world. This makes it an exceptionally accessible location for an impromptu vacation. From rejuvenating oneself to spending quality time with the family or a new spouse, there is no better holiday destination that does it better than the Maldives!
Writing about my trip to the Maldives has filled me with adrenaline and I am ready to go to this haven once again.
